What the BODACC really says about a company officer
The Official Bulletin of Civil and Commercial Announcements does not maintain a register of directors: it publishes announcements. A person appears in this directory because an official act cites that person, on a given date, as a director, manager, president, liquidator, partner or statutory auditor. Each presence therefore has a dated source: a creation, a change of mandate, a filing of accounts, a collective procedure, a deregistration. This is what makes the information verifiable, and this is also what limits it: you are reading a published mention, not a civil status record.
Read a person record without making mistakes
A record brings together the mandates that the notices make public, the number of companies concerned and the main declared role. Two precautions are better than a quick reading. First the dates: the first and last mandate mark the period of activity as recorded in the bulletin, and not the complete career of a person. Then the roles: the same name may be a director of one company and an agent of another in difficulty, these are not the same commitments. We display the role as the act names it, without reformulating it.
Homonyms: why we do not merge persons
Two persons may have exactly the same surname and the same first name. Combining their mandates under a single record would produce false information, and that is an error we refuse to make. This is why a record indicates possible cases of homonymy, the number of mandates and the companies concerned, rather than guessing. The rule is simple: an incomplete and honest record is better than a complete and false record. To remove doubt, the reference remains the SIREN of the company and the publication date of the notice.
What to do with this information
A person record is used to verify a statement, not to judge someone. It shows that a document was published, on a given date, concerning a given company. It states neither competence, nor reputation, nor current financial soundness. For an official verification, the bulletin and the trade register remain the source, and our links lead you there. To follow a person over time, subscribing to alerts is sufficient: each new publication that cites that person triggers a notification.
