France has 18 regions: 13 metropolitan and 5 overseas. Each region opens its detailed hub: departments, cities and notices.
Why the BODACC is also read by region
The Bulletin publishes its announcements by commercial court, and each court belongs to a geographical jurisdiction. Reading the announcements by region therefore means reconstructing real economic activity: where companies are created, where they cease, where collective proceedings are opened. These volumes draw a map of the vitality of the territories, which official statistics publish with a delay of several quarters, whereas our figures follow daily publications.
How to read the fourteen regions and their volumes
Fourteen regions cover France: thirteen in metropolitan France, and the overseas territories grouped together. For each one, you will find the creations, the removals, the collective procedures, the filing of accounts and the sales recorded in the bulletin. A high volume is not a bad sign in itself: Île-de-France naturally concentrates more creations than Corsica, simply because its economic fabric is denser. The comparison takes on meaning when the volume is related to the number of businesses already established in the region.
From the department to the municipality
Under each region, the departments and then the municipalities allow descending to the local level. This is where the information becomes concrete: the creations of a city, the deregistrations of a business district, the ongoing procedures in a rural municipality. Each level takes up the same families of announcements, with the same links to the companies concerned, which allows going back from a municipality to its region and comparing two territories on the same basis.
What these figures do not say
A volume of announcements measures a published legal activity, not the economic health of a territory. A region with many strike offs may be a region where many companies were created ten years earlier: renewal is normal. Likewise, a region with little activity in the bulletin may simply have fewer formalities to publish. The figures are a starting point for asking a question, never an answer in themselves.
